Biographies for 2010 Featured Speakers

Nigel Dawes, M.A., L.Ac.

Nigel has been involved in the field of East Asian Medicine for over 25 years.  Beginning with a trip to Japan in the early 1980’s following a first degree in comparative literature, his education has included Acupuncture School in Tokyo where he lived for almost 6 years before leaving to pursue further clinical studies in China in 1987.  After 6 years back in his native London, he moved to New York in 1993 where he has a full-time practice and is on the faculty of both Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and Tristate College of Acupuncture

Nigel is known for his work in the field of Zen Shiatsu, founding and directing the London College of Shiatsu, lecturing internationally and publishing 2 books on the subject.  He has also contributed widely to academic administration in the field serving as Dean of the Oriental Medicine department of a NY College for 8 years and on several professional boards and committees nationally. In recent years he has dedicated his teaching and practice to Kanpo, Sino-Japanese Herbal Medicine, and has lectured widely on the subject, publishing numerous journal articles and a translation of a modern Kanpo classic due in print in Spring 2010.  

Nigel lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife and 10 year-old daughter.
