Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, L. Ac., M. S., M. M.

Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, AAOM Educator of the Year, is an internationally-recognized author, teacher, Oriental medical practitioner and musician – a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, Zen shiatsu and cranio-sacral therapist, and an opera singer.  An outspoken and articulate advocate `of Oriental medicine, she is a creator of innovative treatment protocols and writer for acupuncture periodicals – including a regular column in Acupuncture Today magazine – and has contributed significantly to raising public awareness of facial acupuncture as a viable, holistic treatment modality. 

In addition to her contributions to Acupuncture Today, she has likewise contributed articles to CJOM, OM Journal, and The Lantern (AUSTRALIA), among other periodicals.  She has appeared prominently in interviews and profiles in the national media, including The New York Times, Alternative Medicine, the Associated Press, and on The Discovery Channel, ABC-TV and FOX-TV.

Ms. Wakefield recently taught seminars in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, and was the only North American acupuncturist invited to present at an international TCM Forum sponsored by Shanghai Shuguang Hospital, associated with the Shanghai University of TCM.  To date, Mary Elizabeth has trained 2,500 practitioners from around the world in her unique philosophy and treatment protocols.
